Preston Bagot to Stratford-upon-Avon

We left Preston Bagot on Monday 25 May and arrived at Stratford upon-Avon on the Tuesday 26 May.

We crossed the Wootton Wawen Aqueduct

Ivan doing his horse impression!

We crossed the Edstone Aqueduct, the longest iron aqueduct in England. It is a Grade II listed structure. Built in the early 19th century the aqueduct spans a road and railway line via a 754 ft cast iron trough which rests on brick pillars. The towpath is unusually sunken below the level of the canal.
We cross the Edstone Iron Aqueduct

We descend the Wilmcote flight of locks

We moored overnight on Monday 25 May at Bishopston

We entered Bancroft Basin in Stratford-upon-Avon on Tuesday 26 May and moored there for two nights

On Tuesday evening we enjoyed a nice meal and drink at this pub close to our mooring

Cheers!

Hatton to Preston Bagot

We left Hatton on Saturday 23 May, went through the Shrewley Tunnel and, as we wanted to delay our arrival in Stratford-upon-Avon until after the bank holiday weekend, we carried on up the Grand Union Canal to the bottom of Knowle Locks. We turned around there and moored overnight at nearby Heronfield. The following morning we turned onto the Stratford-upon-Avon Canal. This canal runs from the junction with the Worcester & Birmingham Canal at Kings' Norton Junction for about 25 Miles to join with the River Avon at Stratford, via the lock from Bancroft Basin. We joined the canal at Kingswood Junction and we moored overnight on Sunday 24 May at Preston Bagot.

We started the day with a super full English breakfast!

We passed throuh Shrewley tunnel
(note the separate tunnel for the horses).

We turn around below Knowle Locks

As we were missing Jen's wonderful homemade sausages, Elaine made us some!!

We moored up overnight at Heronfield, where we enjoyed a drink in this canalside pub

On Sunday 24 May we turned onto the Stratford-upon-Avon Canal

A tight squeeze!

The locks on the Stratford-upon-Avon Canal are in the main all narrow ones with single gates,

Barrel-roofed cottages are unique to the Stratford-upon-Avon Canal

The split bridges are a unique design of the southern section of the canal.
These grade II listed structures are have a small gap in the centre to
allow a tow-rope to pass through without the need to detach it from the horse.

Traffic jam!!

We pass over the Yarningale Aqueduct

On the towpath at Preston Bagot.
Cheers!
